Happy Valentines day!

Happy Valentine's Day!
This saturday I had a small comic signing at a local comic shop with some other cartoonists, including Noah Van Sciver. Here's my comic from Saturday:

Proof that I didn't take Samantha's advice:

While waiting around all day (mainstream comic shops aren't really the best place to sell 'poorly drawn, photocopied doodles stapled by hand' comics by me or 'life sucks when am i ever going to be rich' comics by Noah), me and Noah drew this little comic:

Jeez seeing his comics side by side with mine makes we want to draw better! Also, I drew this Hourman in my sketchbook, because, comics, right?

And then finally, here's my comic from yesterday:

Links are still boken on the side, I'll totally get to that! Also, I'm doing this local Denver cartoonist signing thing tomorrow! So come if you wanna!

sick cat / cellar door

Ok, I promise I won't just make a thousand cat comics now, and if I do, I promise they'll be much better drawn than this one.
Also, I can't believe I haven't mentioned the Cellar Door book! Cellar Door is a local anthology mostly showcasing Denver writters (with some pretty sweet illustrations), but I do have a 3 page comic in there. It's 130 pages and only $8 (the printing is super professional too), you can buy it HERE.

Eat Your Art Out 2011
No comic today, I'm saving it for tomorrow, along with big news that you're going to care about for sure. Ok maybe not that much, but still.
This year I was again invited to participate in an art show in LA benefiting the Angel City Derby Girls. A lot of sweet cartoonists/illustrators submit (like Jim Mahfood) and it's shown in Meltdown, LA's best comic shop! The show is Feb. 28th, and it sounds like a crazy party. Wish I could go! Here's the INFO.
Anyways, this years theme was "The Dark & Cryptic Origins of Nursery Rhymes," and I chose the pied piper. Here's the finished peice:

And here's some process shots! (click for bigger like always)
1. Pencil sketch on computer paper, then outlined in pen

2. Pen outline (to make it easier to see on a lightbox)

3. Pencil transfer to watercolor paper and a greenish wash to tone the paper

4. Watercolors

5. Ink outlines

6. Framed!

I'm not the best painter (I'm just too lazy) so I was trying to paint like one of my heroes, Scott C. A while ago he posted some process shots, and I've been waiting to try it ever since.

New friend / Leila Duca

So after brutally ripping Leila to shreds the other day, she comes back at me with THIS. Sheesh, so I draw you as a smelly poorly-draw duck and you turn me into a badass dragon that eats kids?
If you guys aren't familiar with Leila del Duca, then here's a tiny comic about her childhood so you can get to know her a little:

Bald eagle / DOG CRAPS / bumper sticker

Ok! I'm finally ready to announce DOG CRAPS! A teeny tiny 12 page mini comic about dogs, you know, crapping. It's only 50 cents though, so just get one! Also, Samantha had a drawing in there, so it's sort of our first book together (a very big deal).

Also, I made some custom bumper stickers at buildasign.com! Check it:

I was going to charge people for these, but that's too hard and I'm too lazy! So how about you just buy some comics and I'll send one! Sound good? Cool! They're really nice quality, so stick them on your car with pride! haha maybe not your car, but something else. Actually if you put it on your car send me a picture. I want to see that.
So Dog Craps is on sale on the right hand side over there --> as well as some other, very well crafted mini-comics. The time is now. Buy those.
I mean, if you want. Thanks.
